WELCOME TO MY BLOG

I'm hoping these new perspectives
will be helpful to you...

I am always very conscious that those thoughts could be very naive or even plain wrong. I've believed many things in my life before to realize only much later... that I had been wrong all along.

With that in my mind, what I write is what I believe and is the construct of what I read/see/hear (which I try to do a lot of).

I take comfort in the messages of encouragement I've received since and the people who told me they were touched by them. So here is what I have to offer... for now.

Do what's hard. Life will be easy.

I’ve striven hard all of my life for many things and have also been weak (and continue to be so…) in many more aspects.

Looking back, I can’t help but be amazed at the contrast of the results of delayed gratification.

The fewest battles win the war...

I have only 3 moves to make in 2021 and I already played and won the first.

I used to be that annoying guy in traffic - the one that cuts off everyone and zig zags his way thru lanes in hopes of shaving precious seconds and minutes to get there faster.

I like getting older ...

& the resulting wrinkles on my face.

It’s not that life gets any easier, it’s just that you get so much better at dealing with the frustrations of living. ⁣

With age, I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of myself. ⁣

Trick your mind into a positive state

Here's how.

I read a Psychology Today article that talked about our brain’s ability to shut down the parts it didn’t need to conserve energy and how this said process was responsible for both our feelings and inability to get out of depression.

Throughout evolution, our brains became bigger and more complex, developing parts that were specialized for certain functions (pleasure, critical thinking, etc.).

Go anywhere you want to go...

no plan required.

I watched a video by Jeff Sutherland (guru on organizational effectiveness and the value of failing fast in business!) and I’ll borrow his analogy to make a similar but broader point.

In his video, he takes us back to his early Air Force pilot days serving in Vietnam and tells us how he quickly realized that a well-drawn plan went out the window the moment he lifted the wheels…. Why?

Find the right love, fast.

Relationships are important. Time is short. Mistakes are costly.

The breadth and depth of the relationships in our lives are the single biggest predictors of our well-being and our happiness. They include relationships with your family, your friends but also to a life partner.

Grit, Part 2:

How pain and effort lead to a better life…

In my previous blog, I wrote about how you can achieve pretty much any goal in life, should you be willing to sacrifice, invest in lots of hard work and learn to embrace pain.

But I've often asked myself, was it really worth it to sacrifice so much to attain the goals we've set? Shouldn’t we be teaching our kids and our peers to lead a more gentle life devout of any sacrifice and pain?

Grit, Part 1:

Why perseverance is hard to teach

I have long been a believer in the value of grit (determination and persistence in pursuit of a goal).

I’ll gladly admit it again - I’m pretty sure that I was born talent less, with a lazy predisposition and an overactive mind (ADHD)… None of them, I can assure you, have directly contributed to my success.

Make better decisions... live more satisfied.

A good life is the fruit of a succession of good decisions.

I was born with both an over-competitive and lazy nature. I have many more faults but these two have served me well.

Morning Thought: Why do men commit?

This morning I asked myself...

“In a world where sex is so readily available, why do most men stay in relationships or are willing to commit to long-term relationships? More importantly, what pushes me to find one?"
